BIGGEST GAME YET AS LYMO HEAD FOR THE GD PRINT STADIUM
Updated: Sep 9
SIX games, six wins so far… but the Brickies will have to be at their impressive best to make it Seven-Up, because next in line comes what is sure to be a feisty local derby against Lymington Town. There’s no doubt that Lymo will be up for this one, because the rivalry between the clubs is intense - not least because of a “marriage” which broke up after nine years. In 1998 New Milton and Lymington joined forces, playing home games at Fawcetts Field and enjoying several successful seasons at the outset. Between 1998/99 and 2004/05 the club enjoyed consistent success in the Wessex League, never finishing outside the top six in the first seven seasons. They even reached the quarter-finals of the FA Vase in the first season and the fifth round in 2004/05. After winning the Wessex title that season it started to go pear-shaped. A 16th finish in the Isthmian League the following season was followed by a 17th placing in the Southern League South & West the following year - and the merger was called off. Lymo re-formed as Lymington Town, New Milton as New Milton Town. There have been plenty of tussles along the way since, but the one which will stick in Lymington throats is the final game of 2024/25 when New Milton rounded of their title-winning season with a five-goal bonanza at Lymington. This season, Lymo have made a mixed start under former Bashley player Craig Stanley - but Craig is a fiercely-competitive character and he's sure to have his team wound up for maximum effort. Lymington are currently 17th in the table, but falsely low because they have played one and two games less than teams above them and also had one point deducted on a technicality. However, they have won only once so far, and the Brickies’ scalp would give them a massive morale boost. So there’s no doubt it’s going to be a night for the Brickies to be at their best, on - and off - the field. So voices at the ready… altogether... maximum decibels… #UptheBrickies!!
