ONLY TWO POINTS IN IT NOW - BUT GAMES IN HAND ON THE PACK
WITH no midweek game, the table-topping Brickies have seen the gap between us and the chasing pack narrowed down, with second-placed Amesbury now just two points behind. They have, however, played three more games, while Newport IoW and Frimley Green, next in line, have each played two more games and are three points and seven points behind, respectively. Frimley Green seem to be consistently inconsistent - of their twelve matches they’ve won six and lost six! The lurking danger at the moment seems to come from Fawley, down in fifth place. They have lost only once - to New Milton - and they have drawn two of their eight games, which puts them, potentially, only a point behind, assuming they win their games in hand. One place down, and with an identical draw-loss record to the Brickies, come Newport IoW. Inspired by their sparkling new stadium, as with New Milton, they have dropped only four points so far, but have played only seven matches. The Brickies were due there on Tuesday but Newport have floodlight “teething” problems. Meanwhile, this weekend, the Brickies return to the GD Print Stadium to welcome Colden Common. The Commoners sit in mid-table, with the perfect mid-table record of won four, drawn one, lost four. As with everyone who comes here now, however, they will be keen to get one over the league leaders, so it’s not one to be taken for granted.
