Preview: Frimley Green vs New Milton

This Saturday, the Wessex League Division One delivers a blockbuster clash as league leaders New Milton Town travel to the KBO Stadium to face 2nd-placed Frimley Green.

With both teams in scintillating form and unbeaten records on the line, this promises to be one of the defining fixtures of the season. The Brickmakers are undefeated away from home, whilst Frimley Green boasts an unbeaten home record. Something surely has to give.

This game also pits three of the league’s most lethal strikers against each other.

Frimley Green’s Nick Thumwood tops the scoring charts with an incredible 22 goals this season, while New Milton’s dynamic duo of Barney Stone and Brad Snelling are hot on his heels. Stone and Snelling, who found the net in that nine-goal thriller in August, will be key to unlocking the Frimley Green defence again.

Matt Maybury said the following ahead of the fixture.

"We’re really looking forward to this one and there has been a real buzz about the place since the game last week, in anticipation for this one. I think it was really important for us to get that game on, especially with all the postponements and it keeps the momentum going.
We’ve got a couple back from injury, so we’re going there full strength.
We had Frimley watched in the week and have seen a lot of them over the season so far. We know what to expect, they’re a good physical side with plenty of talent in there but we’ll stick to what we do and hopefully that works for us.
It would be great to see as much support in Surrey as possible!"

For New Milton, a win would stretch their lead at the top and solidify their position as the league’s dominant force. For Frimley Green, this is a golden opportunity to close the gap and keep their title aspirations alive.

Both sides know the significance of the occasion, and the intensity will be palpable.

Their dominance has been built on a combination of attacking brilliance and defensive solidity, as evidenced by last weekend’s emphatic 4-0 victory over Cove. Manager Matt Maybury will undoubtedly have his side fired up to maintain their unbeaten away record and cement their place at the summit.

Frimley Green, meanwhile, are in fine form themselves, having won six of their last ten games (DDWWWLWLWW). Their fortress at the KBO Stadium has been a major factor in their success this season, with no team leaving with three points.

Head to Head - New Milton vs Cove

The rivalry between these two sides has grown in intensity.

Their last meeting was a pulsating 5-4 thriller on August 31st, which remains New Milton’s last league defeat this season. Brad Snelling (2), Barney Stone, and Jack Foden were on the scoresheet that day as the Brickmakers lost out in a high-octane contest.

Last season, the spoils were shared, with each side claiming a victory. With such a finely poised history, this weekend’s clash promises another chapter of drama.
