Preview: New Milton vs Newport

There are concerns that this fixture may not go ahead. The Met Office has issued rain, snow, and wind warnings for Saturday, and even if we beat the referee's pitch inspection at 09:30 a.m., we then have to hope that the away side can travel over safely on the ferry from the Isle of Wight. If the match does take place, it'll be the first of 3 at home in the next 7 days.

Matt Maybury said the following ahead of the fixture.

"We’re under no illusions how tough the game tomorrow will be; Newport are an extremely well-drilled side and on a good run of their own.

The lads are full of confidence, but we’ve got to ensure that doesn’t turn into naivety or complacency. We’re going to have to work extremely hard and be really disciplined to get anything from the game. We know that from when we played there earlier in the season. They had us under the cosh for long periods.

Hopefully, the ground staff can work their magic and get the game on because it’s one myself and the players are really looking forward to."

LEAGUE FORM GUIDE - WESSEX LEAGUE DIV.1

This is a big one for both sides as 1st takes on 5th. Both teams are on long unbeaten runs in the Wessex League Division One. The Brickmakers are on an eleven-match unbeaten run, whilst Newport are on a nine-match unbeaten streak. Will one of these excellent records end this Saturday? Surely, something has to give.

The two side's last ten games look like this.

HEAD TO HEAD - NEW MILTON VS NEWPORT (IoW)

Since Full Time FA records began in 2007, the two sides have faced each other on 20 occasions, with the travelling side having better results. New Milton has won 7, drawn 4, and lost 9. The last meeting between The Brickmakers and Newport occurred earlier this season, where New Milton battled back to earn a 1-1 draw over on the island.

In the previous season—2023/24—the Brickmakers took maximum points with a 4-3 win away and 2-1 at home, with current squad members Brad Snelling and Barney Stone amongst the goals. Newport's last win at the M.A. Hart Stadium came in November 2022.
