Preview & Programme: New Milton vs Fawley

The Brickmakers take on Fawley AFC tonight at the M.A. Hart Stadium in the third round of the Wessex League Cup. A win for New Milton Town would see them reach the competition's quarter-finals for the first time since the 2022/23 season.

Our online matchday programme for this fixture can be found below.

Matt Maybury said the following ahead of the fixture.

"We’re looking forward to this one. It’s nice to have a break from the pressure of the league and focus on something different. We only played Fawley a couple of weeks ago. We were four up in 30 minutes or so, but they caused us a few issues in the second half, so we’d be naive to think we can win this one without earning the right to.

We’ve used the cups so far to examine different things and mix it up a bit, so we’ll probably look to do something similar. However, I think with the postponements that Saturday showed, there are some others that need minutes, too.

We’ve got a few lads cup-tied, so our hand has been forced on those.

Competition for places is high, and our squad is more than capable, as they’ve already shown. It’s a game we want to win and a cup we want to progress further in, so hopefully, we can do that and get ourselves into the next round."

HEAD TO HEAD - NEW MILTON VS FAWLEY AFC

Ourselves and Fawley have faced each other 19 times—going back to 2007, where our records begin—with the Oilers ahead by one in the win column. Last season's results were ones to forget, New Milton, as Fawley won 5-1 at home in December 2023 and 1-0 at the M.A. Hart Stadium in March of this year.

We last played Fawley AFC only 16 days ago, and Harry McGrath was the starman in a 4-0 win at the Brickability Group Stadium. McGrath provided assists for McCarthy-Gardiner—who scored twice—and Toby Colmer while grabbing a goal for himself.
