ONE down and six to play - that’s the September schedule for the Brickies whose “Saturday off” after defeating Romsey saw no damage to their position at the top of Wessex League Division One. Of their rivals in the next four, Amesbury came a complete cropper, losing 8-0 at Newport IOW while Cove could only manage a 0-0 draw at home to Ringwood, and Fawley where held 2-2 at home by Whitchurch. So as it stands, The Brickies are a point clear of Fawley and four clear of Sandhurst - who have re-appeared in the top four - and Amesbury, although, importantly, with two games in hand on each of those. Cove are five adrift on the same games as New Milton - but the big dangers seem to be lurking near the top of the chasing pack. Newport are now seventh, with games in hand - including one on New Milton and three on most above them, including Frimley Green, whose 6-1 win at Blandfordf was another stand-out result from the weekend. For now, though, all eyes are on this coming Wednesday (9th) when Lymington come to town. It promises some red hot action - not least because last time the teams met was the glory-finale to New Milton’s 2024/25 promotion season which ended with the then-Linnets whacking in five goals in Lymo’s backyard. After that comes a very important cup date next Saturday (12th) away to Baffins Milton Rovers - now one division above - in the FA Vase. Then it’s back to midweek action against Ringwood here at the GD Print Stadium on Wednesday 16th, followed on Saturday (19th) by another home date against the strong Sandhurst side. Seven days to recover before a trip up the M3 and across to Alresford on Saturday 26th, with September ending with what could be a seriously crunch match, away to Newport on Tuesday 29th. Only one thing to say about that list - #UptheBrickies!!!
