STALLIONS GALLOP INTO TOWN AFTER CUP WIN JUST 48 HOURS EARLIER!
AS the Brickies found out in the two of their ten league games so far that they have not won - against Lymo and Ringwood - relatively modest opposition can turn tiger when relishing the possibility of scalping the league leaders. And you don’t need to be a genius to work out that Colden Common, this Saturday’s visitors to the GD Print Stadium, will be very much in that category. They might be sitting mid-table, with a 4-1-4 record, but they warmed up on Thursday night, just 48 hours before kick-off at New Milton, by dumping Premier Division Christchurch out of the Wessex League Cup. The Stallions were mighty proud of their 1-0 defeat of the Church and are stressing on their X-feed how much they are now looking forward to their afternoon out at Fawcetts. In-form fan favourite Jack Nicholas - rated a “breath of fresh air” by their management - scored their winner, while defender Cal Parker was voted Man of the Match. As for two tough games in 48 hours, assistant coach Louis Howie shrugged: “It is what it is, we shall just get on with it.” It’s been a strange season for the Stallions. It started with a bizarre 4-4 draw at Whitchurch, followed by the 4-1 tonking they received at Sandhurst. More of an ability guide came in their next two games, taking Newport IoW right down to the wire in a 2-1 FA Vase defeat on the island, before a 1-1 draw - and 9-8 penalty defeat - up the road at Bash in the Hants Senior Cup. The aftermath of that was successive home defeats, 2-1 to Cove and 3-1 to Folland, before a bounce back with away wins at Frimley Green, 4-3 and Lymo, 2-0. The stunning 4-0 defeat of second-placed Amesbury was their best effort yet and they also hit four against Totton & Eling, with a 2-0 loss at Kintbury in between. So yes, Colden are a little erratic, but yes also, they can score plenty of goals - and yes even more, they will hope to bounce on from the Christchurch win to cause some problems for the table-topping Brickies. Could be an interesting afternoon with best vocal support required, so see you at the GDP for 3pm!
