TABLE-TOP BRICKIES HIT CUP FORM AS WELL

THE wins just keep on coming for New Milton Town. Four out of four in the League so far and now they have the Wessex League Cup in their sights as well, through to the third round after a 2-0 victory away to Hamworthy United. Hamworthy, in the same division, have not started the League season as well as the Brickies, and went into the game with just two draws and no victories to show for their first five games. However, they started this one on the front foot. New Milton, as in Saturday's game against Ash, were slow out of the traps and had keeper Lloyd Thomas to thank for a terrific 35th minute save. The tide soon turned, however, and three minutes later, Niall Dixon, whose two goals were crucial on Saturday, was right place, right time, to fire in from Freddie Franklin's left-wing cross. It stayed that way until just before the hour mark when Oli Lowes snuffed out Hamworthy's hopes of getting back into the game. And an amazing goal it was too - absolute lesson in quick thinking as he spotted the home keeper wandering out of goal, and promptly lofted one right over his head into the net from near the halfway line! After that it was pretty much a case of how many the Brickies would score. Callum Clarke went close with a header, and Niall Dixon hit a 20-yarder which flew a few inches too high of the top corner. In the later stages, manager Jamie Kay used the opportunity to give the bench players a run out, with the Brickies, having gone into the competition in the second round, now safely through to the third.
