THERE'S A FIVE-POINT GAP BUT OTHERS ARE LURKING BELOW

AFTER Saturday’s matches, the Brickies have a five-point lead at the top of Wessex League Division One, although the current table is distorted by the wide variety of matches the 21 teams have played. Second-placed Fawley have a match in hand, while Cove, in fifth, have two matches to spare with the same loss/draw record as the Brickies. One of the key factors about the chasing group is that both Cove and Fawley have only one defeat, and that to New Milton - who also account for one of the defeats for third-placed Amesbury. Sandhurst’s defeat at the GD Print Stadium on Saturday was their first away loss of the season, and the first time in any competition so far that they have failed to score. Brickies also have to keep an eye out further down the table to teams with matches in hand - Newport Isle of Wight have also lost only once and drawn once but have played just six matches. Hedge End are also lurking in tenth place, but with two matches in hand. Next for the Brickies, are two away games, against Alresford Town this coming Saturday and at Newport the following Tuesday (29th).
